INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — REAL News Central Indiana has learned Marian University cancelled a racist event that was scheduled for this Friday following an RNCI investigation and subsequent story. The event, which was being put on by the Student Government Association’s Diversity Executive for medical students and recent alumni, excluded only white students.
“To get the year started off right I am hosting my first Welcome Back Mixer/Kickback event for students of color (Non-Caucasian/Non-Hispanic white).” Student Government Diversity Executive Troi Graves wrote in one grammatically error ridden email. “I hope you will attend and we can make more connections, safe spaces, and new friends.”
Graves doubled down in a subsequent email in an attempt to appease other intersectional groups.
“For this first event, I am trying to create a safe space and larger network for students of color.” She stated. “In the future, look out for my emails for other events that will include more groups like LGBTQ.”

However, the university’s Assistant Dean of Student Affairs sent an email to everyone on the list yesterday notifying them that the event will not be happening on Friday. And, they should not be contacting Graves with questions.
“The Mixer event that was scheduled for this Friday will be rescheduled. We are looking for an event space to accommodate our graduate health professions students, faculty, and staff. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly.”Assistant Dean of Student Affairs Clinton Whitson said.

RNCI reached out to Whiteson to see if white students would be allowed to attend the new event and why he was directing students not to contact Graves. As of publication we have not received a response.
