CARMEL, Ind. — REAL News has learned about a recent “meeting” in which a controversial LGBTQ sex organization went into Carmel High School and attempted to recruit children into their “club” with donuts. The meeting for what’s called “Indiana Youth Group” was held in the multimedia lab during school hours and appears to have been sponsored by school counselor Cary Schwartz. It also appears no parent permission was required.

“We would love to have you come to the Multimedia Lab in the Media Center on Tuesday, September 24th from 11:15am-12:15pm for a special speaking from Indiana Youth Group. IYG is a local organization that supports LGBTQ+ students and their peer allies by fostering caring communities within schools.” An email from the CHS counseling department to students stated. “If you are interested, you… may send an inbox message to Mrs. Cary Schwartz who will gladly get you signed up! Donuts will be provided to the first 30 students who attend – so if you are curious about this organization, please sign up!”

IYG UNDER FIRE FOR SECRETLY INTRODUCING KIDS TO DRAG AND DRAG QUEENS

Last year, IYG came under intense scrutiny from lawmakers across Indiana for designing an event that introduced children to drag culture while also banning parents from attending.

An investigative report in May of 2023 by Tony Kinnett of the Daily Signal described the IYG event in detail.

“A poster for the Youth Carnival doesn’t indicate the nature of the entertainment, but the registration form for children describes ‘an opportunity to meet local Indy drag royalty’ and a ‘youth talent show’ as among planned activities… The registration form also asks children to identify their preferred personal pronouns, including the options ‘They/Them/Theirs,” “Ze/Zir/Zem/Zeir,” and “Xe/Xir/Xem/Xeir.'” Kinnett’s story reads.

“Regarding the exclusion of parents, (IYG Director of Engagement Zoe) O’Haillin-Berne said that although parents ‘are invited to participate in alternative activities … , we do not allow parents on site for safety concerns.'” Kinnett’s story continues. “These safety concerns derived from a ‘general sociopolitical climate’ that is ‘inhospitable and hostile to LGBTQ+ children,’ she said, and could ’cause psychological and physical harm to queer youth.’”

IYG is widely known for its “rehousing” project known as “Prism” which helps move young LGBTQ people out of their homes due to “unsupportive” family members, including parents.

CARMEL-CLAY SCHOOLS COUNSELOR CARY SCHWARTZ

Carmel Clay Schools Counselor Cary Schwartz obviously advocates for pushing LGBTQ ideolgy onto children. Multiple posts on her social media accounts show her advocacy, however, she seems to be careful about limiting any extreme radical stances “publicly” as her Facebook page is semi-private and her X (formerly known as Twitter) account is set to “protected.”

REAL News reached out to Schwartz via email for comment. As of publication she has not sent a response. Below are the questions we asked.

I’m reaching out to get comment regarding the IYG event that was held in the library media center yesterday.

Who at the school sponsored the event? Who organized it? What information was shared with the students? Who was the IYG representative presenting (name)? Did IYG describe their “Prism” program which “rehomes” LGBTQ youngsters who live with “unsupportive” parents? DId they push their “camp” programs? Are they putting together a school club?

IYG has recently come under fire from lawmakers across the state of Indiana for secretly introducing children to sexualized events and material, including drag and drag culture.

They held an event last summer in which they barred parents from attending. While the event details described a “carnival” with facepainting and other events, it left out information regarding introducing the children to local drag queens to learn about drag culture. Once again, parents were barred from attending.
