INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — REAL News Central Indiana has discovered a baby was born alive after a botched abortion at Riley Hospital for Children this past June. The baby survived for 6-hours and 3-minutes following the abortion attempt. There is no documentation the baby boy was provided life saving medical treatment, meaning he was likely left to die after being born alive.
According to documents provided to the Indiana Department of Health known as Terminated Pregnancy Reports (TPR), the abortion was conducted at the Riley Health Maternity Tower on June 22nd by Dr. Sarah Morgan on a 19-year-old woman. Further, it appears the abortion may have been illegally performed using chemicals commonly known as the “abortion pill.” In Indiana at the time, it was illegal to conduct an abortion using the abortion pill on a woman who is more than 10-weeks pregnant. In this case, the mother was 20-weeks into her pregnancy.
This abortion also took place prior to Indiana’s new abortion law taking effect, which essentially bans all abortions in the state with exceptions for rape, incecest and serious medical complications and emergencies. While Indiana’s abortion ban was supposed to take effect last year, it was held up due to several lawsuits and did not become enforceable until August of 2023.
“There’s something especially evil about a children’s hospital killing children. We at Voices for Life are working to hold Riley Hospital and Dr. Morgan accountable for this apparent illegal abortion. With abortions happening only in hospitals via SEA1, we must be vigilant. It’s clear from cases like this that hospitals like Riley are willing to push abortion no matter the legal or human cost.” Melanie Lyon, Executive Director of Voices for Life, said.
The TPR from the above case can be seen below.
MORE COMMON THAN YOU MAY THINK
Babies being born alive after botched abortions is more common than many a led to believe. Earlier this year, RNCI sister outlet REAL News Michiana, reported on two born alive incidents at Sidney and Lois Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Both babies survived for hours outside of the womb before they eventually died.
The first abortion occurred on March 28th, 2022. The abortion was conducted on a 23-year-old woman who was 20 weeks pregnant. According to the TPR, the baby survived for 3-hours before it ultimately died. The abortion pill was used in this case as well.
The second abortion was conducted on July 1st, 2022. According to the TPR in that case, the abortion was performed on a 27-year-old married woman who was expecting a baby boy. The woman was also 20-weeks pregnant and the same abortion pill method was used illegally again. According to the TPR, the baby boy survived for 2-hours before he died.
The TPRs for those abortions can be seen below.
