LEBANON, Ind. — The Lebanon Community School Corporation appears to be in violation of Indiana’s public records laws by hiding its social media content from the public. On Friday, Lebanon Schools set their X account (formerly known as Twitter) to private, preventing all but 2,000 people from viewing the taxpayer funded public school’s content.
“(I) feel that if they create a forum (such as a public comment opportunity), that forum should be open to everyone.” Luke Britt, Public Access Counselor of the State of Indiana wrote to RNCI in an email. “In practice, this would mean that if a page is set to ‘private’, they must admit any who requests access.”
RNCI requested access to the account last week, the school district has not approved it.
LCSC moved to make its social media account “private” following immense backlash and criticism on X after an RNCI investigation uncovered a boy who identifies as a girl viciously attacked an actual girl in the hallways of Lebanon Middle School.
The attack came only weeks after the school district faced intense public scrutiny for allowing that same boy (who identifies as a girl) into the girls’ locker room.
RNCI reached out to the LCSC superintendent for comment. As of publication, we have not received a response. Our email to the school district can be viewed below.
